Found this in my sketchbook. It is a dead bug.

A sketch of one of the recessed alcove statues on the face of the old Guild Hall in Florence. Apparently guilds used to meet there and discuss guildy things. It was really beautiful; my favourite part was the deep blue sections of the alcove behind the statue's head. Its covered in little gold stars.

Went sketching as a group in the San Lorenzo market yesterday. I did a bunch of sketches in pen and did some gouache washes over top for some of them; I'm going to go back and do some more painting on the line sketches later on if I have time. San Lorenzo is really cool, a lot like Grenville Island's food market if you've ever been to Vancouver, except a lot cheaper. I ended up having to get two lunches because everything looked so good there.
A fruit stall.
Skinned bunnies. Their legs look short because their paws are cut off.
A butcher's stall.
A badly drawn fish.

It's been one week since coming to Italy. First couple days were spent in Rome, and we are now settled into our apartment in Florence. Trying to do more painting, but I've got nothing to show for it yet. I'll keep working on it. In the mean time, here are some sketches from the past week:
A map of the city centre where we spend all our time. My apartment is right above Piazza del Duomo, on via Gino Capponi. Everything (in this square) is walking distance. Since we are doing so much walking, it means I can justify eating gelato every day. For every meal.
A gelato shop in Rome
St. Peter's Basilica in Rome
Patterns and architecture in the Basilica of St. Francis.
Sketch of "Cavaliere" sculpture in bronze by Marino Marini
Sketch of a window across the street from a museum.
One of the ceilings of a church.
Ceiling of one of the domed rooms in the Galleria Uffizi.
There was a surprise parade last night.
